Tiresford Guernsey Gold

The Tiresford Guernsey herd is one of the oldest established herds in the UK, having been founded in 1950 by the Posnett family. Andrew Hope joined the business as a share partner about 15 years ago and, after the tragic accidental death of John Posnett, became a tenant of the farm at Tarporley and purchased the herd.

Andrew and Sue Hope have expanded the processing side of the business making mostly Yoghurt and Soft Cheese, but have just introduced a delicious new product called a “Cheshire Thickie”.

One of Andrew’s customers was featured in the recent Channel 5 report and as a result of the interest created, all of the available Guernsey milk is now being processed.

Andrew and Sue’s eldest son John is joining the business shortly to manage the retail side and his enthusiasm will doubtless increase the opportunities for the business.

The Tiresford herd has been prominent in the pedigree side as well, with a young bull Tiresford Pedro ranked at the top of the Guernsey bull rankings and the famous cow Tiresford Daphne 2 winning the All Breeds Championship in 2004, at both of the Autumn Dairy Shows — an award only achieved on one previous occasion by the Guernsey breed.

Tiresford was also recommended by the ‘Savvy Shopper’ in the Daily Telegraph as a place to buy additive-free yogurts. Rose Princes article said ‘Guernsey milk contains a very high proportion of healthy beta-carotene, which is actually visible in this delicious, golden-coloured yogurt.’ Click here to read what she said about yoghurts, Tiresford is mentioned in the list of Where to buy.
